I am still reeling from the shock of yesterday’s story writing. It is not particularly original, and rather falls between genres so is probably not publishable, but I did write the whole thing in one go. It makes me think I should avoid plotting: all the stories I’ve completed tend to be episodic, leading towards a point rather than a resolution.
Anyhow, in this case I was listening to a podcast interview with editors of a collection of essays on the massacres in Indonesia in the 1960s. It was mentioned that the massacres occurred, and the often ignored gendered violence – how women were raped in front of their men. The men were executed, but the women lived. Sometimes they were taken by their rapists.
